No matter what country he is in, Grandpa likes lifting weights. These are homemade--very common here. Each can filled with concrete weighs 25 pounds.

This is a public water source, for people who don't have water in their homes. They are lined up with lots of kinds of containers in the mornings.
This is mechanized way of mixing cornmeal and water to make corn tortillas. People bring their corn here and leave with the dough all mixed. When Spencer was taking the picture from the doorway, she just kept turning her back and sticking her behind out. Everyone was laughing and we never did get a picture of her face.

Guatemaltecos, like all Latin Americans love soccer. They will play any place they can. In this case their make shift court was in an alley between houses.
This is something you just don't see everyday on the streets in the good 'ole USA. I love the ambiance of the culture here. Besides, just look at the character in his face!

This horse is truly serving his owner well--he is carrying the load of firewood, gathered for cooking fires on a daily basis in many homes.
This is an example of the homemade wooden saddles that are so common here. I love them. The first time we saw a man riding with one I was enchanted and commented on it. Spencer commented on what a nag the horse was. I nudged him and said, "I'm not sure I'd be talking. He's riding and we're walking!"

Visiting Teachin in Chiquimula

This is Tere (one of my VT Companions) and her daughter Sofi. We are visiting Anna Maria who takes care of her bedridden, 90 year old mother, Juana. Her mother was one of the earliest members in Chiquimula. Their , laundry, cooking, dish washing and everything is outdoors. Only the detached bathroom and the bedroom are enclosed and covered. We were there for Juana's 90th birthday.

My friend Rosa Elena

Rosa Elena turned 60 a few weeks after I turned 63. I baked her a birthday cake. She was thrilled. She often brings me flowers on her way to work just up the street from us. We ate our Christmas Eve dinner at her home. Her son took us or our first moto rides that night.
