This was our experience of attending a funeral in Guatemala. Gladys' brother died from cancer. We walked with the funeral for about a mile. After about 1/2 mile they did put the casket in the hearse. It was simply too hot to carry it all the way to the cemetery. It was a very different funeral. Casket is kept in the home. People congregate outside under awnings and there isn't really any kind of a service. The family collected Q6000 to pay for it and then the money was stolen.
