Hi everyone!
Spencer has covered most of our news. I also enjoyed our trip to the San Marcos stake. In my talk I mentioned that my brother Harold started his mission there in 1968 and the was one branch in for San Marcos and San Pedro. Now there are two stakes. It is amazing how the church has grown. The people in the city of San Marcos don't wear the tipico clothing so much, but we saw it in all the smaller towns we drove through. Here is a picture taken from the highway overlooking San Marcos/San Pedro.
I'm going to post a few pictures with comments--after all a picture is worth a thousand words. Many people walk to church even if they have cars. But in one of the branches in the stake there is a brother that lives at the top of a mountain and walks for an hour and a half to get to church and to return home--every week--and he attends faithfully. Others come on "motos". There was a cute family of four headed home from church today.
Working with the kids is something that touches your heart--how can it not when they look at you with eyes like this?
Now here is a picture of Spencer carrying bags of groceries up the hill to our apartment. There is a volcano (extinct)in the background. They are everywhere in this country! Then further up the hill we took a picture of me with the hill that goes up to the temple in the background so you can get an idea of what our climb is like.
We have to ride with someone to the open air market (the mercado), then when we return home we soak all of the veggies and fruits in water with some chloro added to sanitize them. It creates a beautiful variety of color. Do you love my apron. A sister made it. Her pattern book that she looks at is straight out of the 50's. But she makes things without a pattern--pretty impressive.
And finally a picture that is mostly of interest to Spencer's sister Marial and all of the Mortenson cousins. Finally I got Spencer and I in the same picture with Paul and Patricia Mortenson.
I think this probably enough for one week. We have loved seeing some kids and grandkids on Facetime and Skype. Hope to see more of you. Love, Jeanine/Mom
